1. W. Gordon Brown, Study Sessions Summaries

Science and Health states “Then will a voice from harmony cry: ‘Go and take the little book. . . . Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.’ Mortals, obey the heavenly evangel. Take divine Science. Read this book from beginning to end. Study it, ponder it.”

A group of Christian Science students in England took this message to heart, and decided to study the textbook Science and Health, with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, chapter by chapter, from the standpoint of the seven synonymous terms for God. At the end of the study of each chapter, W. Gordon Brown put on record a summary of what had been brought to light.

The study of the textbook, the first series, was followed with a study of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, the second series. This study of the Bible led, in turn, to a third series on the spiritual interpretation of World Civilization. Two more supplementary series were made, namely, The Nothingness of Animal Magnetism and The Open Door.

These summaries were originally recorded on 49 cassette tapes. These tapes have now been produced in digital format, resulting in 99 CD’s. Please take a look at our cross-reference list if you would like to make any order. When ordering CD’s please order by group and not individual CD’s. The recordings are also available here on this website, where you can listen/download 100 mp3 files.

2. Rosalie Maas, Poems

Rosalie Maas Selected Poems

Foreword

Rosalie Maas devoted her life to the study of the Science of Christianity, which is inherent in the Bible, and to the practice of spiritual healing. For twenty-five years she co-edited a periodical, Ideas of Today, the purpose of which was to draw attention “to the ideas or fundamental spiritual factors active in every field” maintaining “that to understand these ideas in their spiritual Science helps to accelerate their leavening influence in the entire range of human thought and endeavour.”

Rosalie belonged to no religious organization, but in her searching found that in the book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the answer to the question: “What is God?” crystallized for her the nature, essence, and oneness of Deity. The simple answer is given in the form of four adjectives and seven synonymous nouns: “God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love.”

Always ready to ‘capture’ in words the beauty of life’s fleeting moments or sustained acts of kindness, Rosalie was inspired to write many poems. Whether describing the splendour of the natural world or the wonders of human courage, endeavour, and love, she unfailingly saw the power of God, good, implicit in every experience. When faced with problems of strained human relationships or ill-health she saw the vital need to trust and understand this same divine power, and sought in prayer the specific spiritual ideas needed for each call for help, expressing them in poetic form.

The order of presentation here is: first, poems exploring spiritual Science; second, reflections on prayer; third, healing ideas; and lastly, gratitude for the promise of the natural world – its beauty and grandeur which spark the underlying truths of divine origin.

The cover, ‘Rosa gallica pontiana’, is from Roses: adapted from Pierre-Joseph Redouté’s Les Roses and James Sowerby’s English Botany, edited by Fiorella Congedo. Copyright © 2011 by Harper Design and loco publishing. Courtesy of Harper Collins Publishers.

3. John L. Morgan, In the Beginning

Introduction

Our age offers us the unique gift of an actual Science of Being. Yet the prospect of studying such an immense subject might well daunt the seeker if there were not already, in the Bible, a perfect crystallization of the basic concepts. In the idiom of the Bible, these are presented as the seven days of creation. These fundamentals were re-defined in twentieth century language by Mary Baker Eddy, who built the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures”, upon this definition of God: “God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love”.

The study sections comprising this pamphlet appeared originally in the “Children’s Supplement”, issued with “Metaphysical Notes”, a periodical published by The Foundational Book Company of London. They are now re-issued, with little alteration to the language, as a simple introduction to the study, suitable for the beginner of all ages.

In the Beginning, a booklet of 27 pages, is available for PDF download.

4. John L. Morgan, The Bible and Spiritual Healing

Morgan CD Bible and Spiritual Healing

“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, … and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, … and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” (Revelation 22:1,2)

“It’s the very spirit and presence and power of God operating as what you might call Christ consciousness. … Real spiritual healing must go back to the roots, it has to be Bible based. And it’s the Bible that gives us the most marvelous texts, … Those texts which have been read and loved for hundreds of years by spiritually minded people are in fact laws of reality.”

In this engaging lecture on audio CD, given in Gold Hill, Oregon U.S.A. in September 1984, John Morgan shares, through seven main ways of looking at spiritual healing, many demonstrations of how these Bible laws show forth healing.

5. John L. Morgan, The Christ Standpoint & Christianity (audio CD’s)

The Christ Standpoint - Christianity

The original context of these talks:

In 1966 a group of Christian Scientists on the East Coast of America, registered as “International Metaphysical Assn. Inc.”, arranged a Conference which was held over five days in August in Princeton, New Jersey under the heading: “Christian Science: The Education of the Future.”

This title was inspired by Mrs. Eddy’s sentence in Miscellaneous Writings (p. 61): “The education of the future will be instruction, in spiritual Science, against the material symbolic counterfeit sciences.”

Speakers from England, Switzerland and the United States were invited to participate. The talks were given morning and afternoon and were recorded on open reels. The evenings were set aside for discussion. These talks by John Morgan were later transferred to three cassettes and now onto four CD’s. Some talks by other speakers were published as booklets.

As mentioned during his talks, John Morgan’s subjects were the outcome of the previous three years of classes and seminars held in London: the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew’s Gospel, Mark’s Gospel and then Luke’s.

In “The Apocalypse” chapter in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (pp. 575, 577) Mrs. Eddy uses four capitalized terms twice to describe the four sides or cardinal points of the holy city. They are respectively the Word, Christ, Christianity, divine Science and the Word, Christ, Christianity and Christian Science.

The Sermon on the Mount had been taken as a Bible text that offers a source for study of the four orders of the seven capitalized synonymous terms for God.

The ‘Word’ order of these seven terms for God is found in the answer to the question: What is God? (p. 465).

Mark’s Gospel was the text for the next year for an in-depth study of the ‘Christ‘ following Mrs. Eddy’s order of the terms for God given in “The Scientific Translation of Immortal Mind” (S&H 115) and is the subject of the first talk.

The following year, and the subject of the second talk, was a study of the text of Luke as the Gospel illustrating ‘Christianity‘, following the order of these seven synonymous terms for God as given in the “Glossary” (S&H 587).

6. John L. Morgan, The Science of Christianity

The Science of Christianity 1

A famous debate in the nineteenth century between a bishop of the Church of England and an advocate of Darwin’s theory of evolution, raised the question: Which is true, religion or science? The debate continues today and we find the extremes are still expressed with righteous fervour.

The foundation of Christianity is the Bible, which frequently abounds in pictorial language. Taken literally this creates arguments, but when accepted and understood as symbolic it reveals provable spiritual laws.

For example, the purpose of “Genesis” is not to teach modern science, nor to explain how the world began, nor to argue with the theory of evolution. It is a vehicle for revelation; it is for conveying metaphysical truths by means of symbols. As this possibility is entertained it becomes apparent that the Bible does contain the spiritual laws, which provide a Science of Christianity.

The author says: “. . . although I say Christian, I mean all that is true in all religions, because undoubtedly a parallel spiritual idealism permeates every religion in its uncorrupted form.”

John Morgan devoted many years to the study of spiritual Science and the practice of spiritual healing. He conducted study groups and lectured widely in Europe and North America and is the author of several illuminating and practical books on the subject.
